  • New book out now! 200 pages on the Dribble Drive

The brand new and greatly expanded version of my book is now available to buy on Lulu.com and as an eBook.

The book now hasĀ 200 pages and has been completely rewritten. I’ve taken out chapters on the Dribble Drive Zone Offense and the Complimentary High Post offense, and instead I’ve gotten to the bottom of the Dribble Drive, and all the little details of the offense.

I talked to Vance Walberg this week and that finally settled the last few issues of X’s and O’s, and now I’m ready to publish. I really think this book covers everything there is to know about the Dribble Drive.

There really is no comparison to the first book. This one is 100% better (and 100% longer). Look for the new chapters on fundamentals, the break down zone, passing and cutting, the pick & roll, the S-gap, switching and sagging defences, post play, including how to play with two post players, and an added 45 pages of drills.

  • Butler Bulldogs

I’ve been quite impressed with the play of the Butler Bulldogs in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

Specifically I’ve been impressed with their inside screens. Pop over to the NCAA on demand page and have a look:

Notice how Butler constantly are using their bigs to create space on the inside by sealing the post defenders, often from the inside. Whenever the defenders front the post the Butler bigs will just seal on the inside – and this creates a lot of space, and it occupies the post defenders so they help less.

This is somethingthat tickles my brain. I really like it, and I will look at how you can use this in the Dribble Drive.

They often manage to take away the

  • Walberg and the Wall Street Journal (and the Knicks)

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal about the New York Knicks and their use of statistics offers a lot of support to the way Coach Walberg thinks about basketball.

  • The 3-on-3 Transition Drill

Transition is a continuous 3 on 3 drill that’s fun and challenging, with two teams competing against each other, while focusing on the Dribble Drive Break/Sideline Break and defensive transition.

The drill continues the work started in the Scramble 11 man break drill, using the same tactics, but now requiring the wings to beat their man to force the outnumbered situation.

  • Drag 2 to the 3 – where to go next?

On a Drag 2 drive with a pass to the 3, the question has been asked where the 1 should go after the pass, if you want to take advantage of the post.

Wallberg has the 1 go to the 3-corner after the pass, as shown here.

The question posed is if it wouldn’t be better if the 1 goes opposite, as to not clog up the middle with his defender?

I think that solution poses several problems, as I’ll explain below.
